INSTITUTIONAL BIOSAFETY COMMITTEE
At the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, our Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is dedicated to ensuring that our research is being performed as safely as possible. The IBC is the primary oversight unit that monitors all research involving recombinant DNA, synthetic nucleic acids, infectious agents, and biological toxins. Our IBC is tasked with reviewing each laboratory's research protocols, assessing the scientific risk of this research, creating guidelines and SOPs for best research practices, and enforcing policies to prevent any potentially harmful materials from being released into the local environment and community. The IBC partners with our Environmental Health and Safety department to provide training and conduct regular laboratory inspections.
Our IBC is registered with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and follows their guidance accordingly. As required by the NIH, our meeting minutes are posted here in an effort to increase public transparency regarding aspects of our research. Please contact the IBC chair for further information: Chris Endicott PhD, 415-209-2285, cendicott@buckinstitute.org.
