Affinity Groups at the Buck
At the Buck Institute, we believe that every person—regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socioeconomic status—deserves the opportunity to thrive in our community. We also believe that scientific progress is driven by open exchange, collaboration, and the ability of individuals to contribute fully and authentically.
ERG (Employee Resources Group) or Affinity Groups (AF) at the Buck Institute are employee-led, voluntary groups that bring people together to connect, share ideas, support career growth, and build community within the workplace.
Affinity Group Association (AGA)
With members representing faculty, academic trainees, staff, and executive leadership, the AGA is dedicated to supporting Buck’s commitment to educating the Buck community about social and cultural issues, advocating for positive change, and identifying opportunities to support the advancement of all members of our community.
Multicultural Trainee Association (MTA)
In addition to organizing cultural events such as Diwali and Lunar New Year celebrations, MTA provides training and professional development opportunities to underserved individuals pursuing careers in STEM. In doing so, we aim to foster a more welcoming environment for individuals of all backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in STEM.

To achieve this, BWISE hosts bimonthly peer-mentoring workshops on topics such as negotiation strategies, recognizing and minimizing non-promotable tasks, and achieving work-life balance, and more. In addition, BWISE organizes regular happy hours and networking events to foster a supportive community dedicated to empowering women in science at the Buck.

We aim to enhance the postdoctoral experience and ensure that all members thrive during their training and beyond.
